I am a freestyle artist working with whatever medium I have around and using my natural creative abilities to produce original works. To be an authentic Maori artist whakapapa is important but more so the language and tikanga which hold the culture. … As part of a tribal people I have strong notions of ownership and I hold everything personally as my own if it is from my ancestors. Our culture is based on collective ownership and as a collective we fiercely defend our resources and intellectual property. Land is a huge part of being Maori and is fundamentally important to the expression of our world view.
