Bethany Matai Edmunds (Ngati Kuri) is a weaver and fibre sculptor whose work is strongly influenced by traditional Maori pattern design. Since graduating in 2000 with a degree in Applied Arts: Maori Design and Technology, her skills have developed through a passion for reviving traditional weaving practices and the preparation and use of native fibres as well as commercial fabrics such as denim.

Edmunds' work has been exhibited internationally at events including AOTEAROA Maorien Lurra (2002) an exhibition of Maori Art and Culture, hosted by the Basque people of northern Spain. In 2004 she established Rauru, a collective of visual and performance artists who present exhibitions based on significant Maori events. The first major show was Signatures: He Tohu o te Wa (2004), inspired by the 1835 New Zealand Declaration of Independence. This year her work was displayed in Nga Rangatira o te Ao (2005), an exhibition celebrating Matariki (the Maori New Year).

Edmunds has also received several important commissions for new work, from clients such as Maori Television, the Maori Women's Welfare League and the 5th World Indigenous Youth conference.
